Silica Sol Investment Casting
The silica sol also shares the name of water glass in general, it is used by the meatal casting process as mold adhesive which is mixed with sand and several other materials. The silica sol is applied to both sand casting and investment casting technics. It is one of the most common investment casting processes. As the molding material, silica sol is able to stand temperature up to 1800℃. Similar to other investment casting processes, the silica sol investment casting process mainly consisted of wax injection, assembly, shell preparation, dewax, pouring, cut-off, and finished casting, etc. Compared to the resin investment casting, the silica sol method dewaxes into the high-temperature water, and the ceramic mold is made of water glass quartz sand. Grey Cast Iron Casting
The name grey iron is because of the gray color of the fracture it forms, which is due to the presence of graphite. Grey iron die casting is the most common and widely used casting material. Grey iron is so popular in engineering applications because of its relatively low cost and the properties it presented. The grey iron has good galling and wears resistance because the graphite flakes self lubricates, and it also gives the gray iron part an excellent damping capacity because it absorbs the energy and converts it into heat. The effect of cooling rate Under certain casting process conditions, the cooling rate of the casting has a great impact on the degree of graphitization. Castings of different wall thickness with the increase in wall thickness, the cooling rate slows down, and carbon atoms have sufficient diffusion time. Semi-solid metals (alloys) are internally characterized by the coexistence of mixed solid-liquid phases and the presence of metallic liquids at grain boundaries, which vary in the state depending on the solid phase fraction. It can be seen that at high solid phase fraction, the liquid phase component is limited to some of the grain boundaries; at low solid phase fraction, the solid phase particles are free in the liquid phase component. Advantages of Semi solid Die Casting Higher viscosity than liquid metal, easier to control: less gas entrained in the mold, less oxidation, improved processability, less mold bonding, higher speed part forming, improved surface finish, easy automation, and formation of new processing processes. Lower flow stress than solid metal: semi-solid slurry has rheological and thixotropic properties, very small deformation resistance, can form parts at higher speeds and can perform complex part forming, shorten processing cycles, improve material utilization, contribute to energy and material savings, and allow high-speed forming of continuous shapes (such as extrusion) and low processing costs. The vacuum pressure casting, as this name indicates, is casting method which the major processes including the melting, pouring, solidifying are performed inside the vacuum chamber. The vacuum is able to minimum the gas content of the product, and prevent further oxidation happening to the metal. This makes the filling speed of die casting faster than ordinary gravity casting. 2. Advantages of Vacuum Die Casting Vacuum molding is a physical molding method, which combines vacuum technology with sand casting, relying on plastic film to seal the cavity surface and the back of the sand mold, with the help of vacuum pump pumping to generate negative pressure, resulting in the pressure difference inside and outside the sand mold so that the mold sand is tightly formed, after placing the sand core, closing the mold, casting, waiting for the casting to solidify, lifting the negative pressure or stop pumping, the mold sand will then collapse and get the casting.
