While β-CD is effective for controlling the viscosity of low-solids-content thickeners, it has limitations with high-solids-content thickeners. Methyl- β-cyclodextrin, however, is a highly efficient viscosity inhibitor. Polyurethane thickeners require only 7% M-β-CD to reduce the system’s viscosity to 2000 mPa•s, meeting usage requirements. This efficiency surpasses that of 10% ethylene glycol. Research indicates that M-β-CD can maintain the stability of color dispersions without the need for additional components or dispersants. It also improves the compatibility of incompatible surfactants, overcoming adverse water sensitivity and foaming issues.
