Purified terephthalic acid (PTA)

Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is fundamentally a reaction between the secondary
petroleum product paraxylene (PX) and acetic acid. PTA is utilized to create PET
(Polyethylene Terephthalate) through a process of polymerization. Here, PTA is
combined with other chemicals to obtain PET (Polyester). PET is a white crystal
powder that is highly innoxious and inflammable. It burns easily when exposed to a
certain amount of air. PTA is an important organic raw material. It is widely used in
industries such as the chemical fiber industry, the light industry, the electronics
industry, and the construction industry.
