Levetiraceta , m is a white crystalline powder chemical. The chemical name is
(S)-α-ethyl-2-oxo-1-pyrrolidineacetamide, the molecular formula is
C8H14N2O2, and the molecular weight is 170.20900. Levetiracetam is an
antiepileptic drug, which is mainly used clinically for the additional
treatment of partial seizures in adults and children over 4 years old with
epilepsy.,



Levetiracetam is a pyrrolidone derivative whose chemical structure is not
related to existing antiepileptic drugs. The exact mechanism of
levetiracetam's antiepileptic effect is unknown. Protective effects observed
with levetiracetam against generalized seizures secondary to focal seizures
induced by pilocarpine and kainic acid, two chemical convulsants that mimic
the complex parts associated with secondary generalized seizures in some
individuals Characteristics of sex seizures. Levetiracetam has inhibitory

effect on neuronal voltage-gated sodium channels or T-type calcium currents.
Studies have shown that levetiracetam antagonizes the activity of negative
regulators of GABA and glycine-gated currents in cultured neurons. A
saturable and stereoselective neuronal binding site for levetiracetam was
found in rat brain tissue.
