NQKSF Seals Manufacturer Wholesale Customized Wear resistant Shaft Oil Seal
The performance and longevity of oil seals are significantly influenced by the surface roughness of the shaft with which they interact. If the shaft surface roughness is too high, exceeding Ra0.9μm, the peaks on the shaft surface will penetrate the oil film and come into contact with the seal lip, resulting in dry friction. This can lead to wear on the lip surface and an increase in oil film thickness beneath the lip, ultimately causing seal failure.
Conversely, if the shaft surface roughness is too low, falling below Ra0.12μm, the contact area between the seal lip and the shaft can be absorbed into the recesses on the shaft surface. This can lead to oil being squeezed out from beneath the lip, destroying the oil film and resulting in dry friction that wears down the seal lip.
Therefore, maintaining an optimal level of shaft surface roughness is crucial for ensuring effective sealing performance and prolonging the lifespan of oil seals. Generally, a surface roughness of Ra0.2~0.6μm is considered ideal for shafts used in conjunction with oil seals.
In addition to surface roughness, other factors such as shaft ovality, eccentricity, and runout also directly impact the sealing performance of oil seals. These factors should be carefully controlled during manufacturing and assembly processes to ensure optimal performance.
Understanding and controlling shaft surface roughness is vital for maximizing oil seal performance and longevity. By maintaining an optimal level of roughness and controlling other factors such as ovality, eccentricity, and runout, can significantly enhance the performance and lifespan of their oil seals.
