Heat Treatment M2 High Speed Tool Steel Tolerance

1.m2 steel is molybdenum-based high-speed steel, which has the advantages of
small carbide inhomogeneity and high toughness. It is easy to overheat, so the
quenching heating temperature should be strictly controlled, and the
requirements for heat treatment protection are stricter. Due to its good
hardness and wear resistance, it is mostly used to manufacture tools for
cutting difficult-to-cut materials. M2 steel has a high tendency to carbides,
so it has stricter requirements for heat treatment protection, and is suitable
for molds that withstand vibration and impact loads.

2.AISI M2 Steel physical properties
Factory hardness: ≤255HB
Quenching temperature: 1220-1240
Hardness:≤63

3.1.3343 High Speed Steel Features
Hardness (factory state): ≤255HB
Curing Temperature: 1220℃-1240℃
Hardness (after heat treatment): ≤ 63 HRC
It is a good choice for cutting applications due to its high wear resistance
and toughness.
Carbide evenly distributed and high toughness.
Can be used to make milling cutters, reamers, broaches, gear cutters and other
industrial tools.

4.M2 chemical composition
Carbon C: 0.80 to 0.90 (allowable deviation: ±0.01)
Silicon Si: 0.20 to 0.45 (allowable deviation: ±0.05)
Manganese Mn: 0.15 to 0.40 (allowable deviation: +0.04)
Sulfur S: ≤0.030
Phosphorus P: ≤0.030
Chromium Cr: 3.80～4.40 (allowable deviation: ±0.05)
Nickel Ni: Allowable residual content ≤ 0.30
Copper Cu: allowable residual content ≤ 0.25
Vanadium V: 1.75～2.20 (allowable deviation: ±0.05)
Molybdenum Mo: 4.50～5.50 (allowable deviation: size≤6,±0.05; size>6,±0.10)
Tungsten W: 5.50～6.75 (allowable deviation: size≤10,±0.10; size>10,±0.20)
Note: According to the agreement between supply and demand, the content of V
can be 1.60～2.20
