Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a common polymer compound with many
outstanding properties and applications. The following are some of the main
characteristics and applications of CMC.
Properties:
CMC is a colorless, tasteless, odorless, water-soluble powder compound.
It has excellent stability and viscosity and is capable of forming strong
colloidal solutions.
CMC also has surfactant properties and therefore has good lubricity and
dispersibility.
CMC's water solubility and ion exchange ability make it an excellent adsorbent
and dehydrating agent.
Applications:
CMC is mainly used as thickener, emulsifier, stabilizer, binder and dispersant
in food, pharmaceutical, pulp and textile industries.
CMC is also used in the petroleum, cosmetic, coating, ceramic and construction
material industries.
