4140 steel is an alloy structural steel with high strength, hardenability, good
toughness and small deformation during quenching.It is used to manufacture
forgings that require higher strength and larger quenched and tempered section
than 35CrMo steel, such as large gears for locomotive traction, supercharger
transmission gears, rear axles, connecting rods and spring clips that are
heavily loaded, and can also be used for Drill pipe joints and fishing tools
for oil wells below 2000m.

4140 Product Process Treatment
Heat treatment process:
Annealing annealing No.1 "760±10℃ annealing, furnace cooling to 400℃ air
cooling. HB220-230
Normalize normalize No.4 860±10℃ normalizing, air-cooled.
Quenching+tempering No.5 840±10℃ quenching water or oil (depending on the
complexity of the product shape), tempering at 680-700 degrees. HB<217
Quenching+tempering No.6 quenching oil at 840±10℃, and then tempering at
470℃. HRC41-45
Quenching+tempering No.7 quenching oil at 840±10℃, and then tempering at
480℃. HRC35-45
Quenching+tempering No.8 Quenching oil at 850°C, and then tempering at 510°C.
HRC38-42
Quenching+tempering No.9 quenching oil at 850℃, and then tempering at 500℃.
HRC40-43
Quenching+tempering No.10 Quenching oil at 850℃, and then tempering at 510℃.
HRC36-42
Quenching+tempering No.11 Quenching oil at 850℃, and then tempering at 560℃.
HRC32-36
Quenching+tempering No.12 Oil quenching at 860°C, and then tempering at
390°C. HRC48-52

2.Heat treatment specification
Heat treatment standard: quenching at 850℃, oil cooling; tempering at 560℃,
water cooling, oil cooling;
3.Available Size:
Round bar: Diameter(mm) Max 800mm; Length(mm) Max 12000mm.
Plate: Thickness(mm) Max 800mm; Width(mm) Max 2300mm; Length(mm) Max 12000mm.
Condition: Cold rolled(drawn)≤50mm, Hot rolled≤12-250mm, Hot forged≥50mm.

steel. It has high fatigue strength, abrasion and impact resistance, toughness,
