Care and maintenance of edge sealing
Proper care and maintenance can extend the life of edge bonding materials,
ensuring they look good and perform well over the long term. Regular cleaning
with a mild detergent is essential to prevent dirt and grime from building up.
Over time, the adhesive may weaken, causing the edges to loosen. In this case,
in the case of hot glue, the problem can be solved by reactivating the adhesive
with the heat of an iron. If the edging is too damaged or worn, removing it and
applying new edging may be the best option.
When it comes to solid wood or veneer edging, it’s important to note that
fluctuations in temperature and humidity levels can cause expansion and
contraction. Over time, this fluctuation can cause the edge banding to loosen,
in which case it may need to be reglued or reapplied.
